With its compelling story, breathtaking cinematography, and deeply relatable characters, this film was a joy to help visualize. One scene that particularly resonated with me was when Grug hurls his family across a canyon to save them. As a father, this moment struck a personal chord—it was an honor to work on shots that carried such emotional weight.
Learning from the Best: Roger Deakins
One of the greatest highlights of this project was the opportunity to meet and work alongside legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins. His insights into lighting, composition, and storytelling had a profound impact on how I approach Previs. While he may not remember me, I will always remember the lessons I learned from him!
Exploring Motion Capture for the First Time
Another exciting aspect of working on The Croods was getting hands-on experience with motion capture. Stepping into a mocap suit and acting out scenes firsthand provided a whole new level of understanding of movement and timing. Later, being able to capture those performances through virtual cameras made the process even more immersive.
